Choose Action For 2021

Choose to take actions that will make your 2021 story special….

I got an email from Audible the book people telling me that I’d spent a little over 1,500 minutes listening to books in the final quarter of the year. That’s over 24 hours listening to what have mainly been books with a common theme ‘How to be better…’ I think it’s been a great investment of my time. Why? Because I want to be better, I have goals and those that I work with, and for, do too. Aren’t we all looking to say we ‘won at life’ (whatever that means to you), I’m prepared to listen to suggestions that I might use along the way to that victory.

1,500+ minutes made me smile, after all there are plenty of other things that if I was sent a measure, would rank higher in time spent but probably have much less potential impact in improving results. So I’m intending to increase those minutes. Not least because whilst I love the content of books, I don’t really like reading!

Increasing my consumption of books will be a resolution for 2021, a year that I already plan to have a lot going on! But I suggest that, if you make a resolution you would do well to make it something you believe that will make a difference, in fact to be successful you must!

2021 is going to be a big year in business at Agile Pay we are looking forward to sharing a successful time with our people and contractors but as I sit planning I think about how crucial every day and decision is and I’m reminded of somethings that I read, or more accurately heard, from Dan Meredith in his book How to Be F*cking Awesome. He explains that there is a simple method of looking at where you are in life. Look at yourself! The mirror is an accurate reflection of how well you look after yourself and that is most important, then your bank balance tells you about your success. I might add that overall the measure should be showed in how happy you are.

So whatever you choose for 2021 choose things that you believe will make a difference to the mirror, bank and happiness!

Agile Pay is here to take some of the stresses and hassles away from life so that you can look after yourself and do the things that make your mirror look better and happiness increase.

The IR35 changes came into effect last month on the 6th April 2021. After false starts, postponements and speculation that further delays or amendments would push the live date back again the big date passed quietly. You could be forgiven for wondering what all the fuss has been about…

Do Your Team Put You On The Podium?

It’s On It’s Way! As we rapidly approach 2021 it’s easy to pick out the now approved COVID19 vaccine roll out as being the most important event on the horizon and undoubtedly the one that will have the biggest impact on business and indeed our lives as a whole. Roll on the roll out! There are other matters that loom large for the economy, one of which being Brexit with the big deal or no deal outcome running closer to the last minutes of the very final of many deadlines. Wow, those late night votes in Parliament seem a long time ago now! After its own delays and ongoing requests for clarification and change the governments amendments to Off-Payroll Working Legislation, ‘IR35’, amendments come into effect on 6th April 2021. Most employers and agencies have taken steps to prepare for the changes, however time is running out and if you haven’t got to grips with things yet the time has come to take action. The key points to remember: • HMRC does not decide what determines employment status. IR35 is based on historic case law, and HMRC’s criteria is only their interpretation of it. • IR35 does not apply to the contractor, but to each individual contract. • The legislation determines whether the contract is ‘for services’ that the contractor provides, or ‘of service’, which would be a contract of employment. • HMRC has confirmed that the new rules will not be applied in retrospect. Employment status is a complex business and there are lots area's to consider, not only features of contractual arrangements, but also baked into daily work practice. Including: Control, supervision and direction - looking at how much say you have over how you complete work and working hours. Right of substitution - this must be genuine Mutuality of obligation - if the employer offers you work do you have to accept it? Equipment - HMRC argue that if equipment is provided by the employer it could suggest that you are a disguised employee Financial risk - contractors would reasonably be expected to be taking some risk shown by insurances or investment in your own development Exclusivity - self-employed people can work for more than one employers at once Part and parcel of an organisation - becoming so ingrained in an organisation that you are part of the structure with direct reports might be a factor You can read the HRMC Facts and Advice here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/understanding-off-payroll-working-ir35 If you are impacted by the changes or you’re not sure of your status or just want reassurance Agile Pay can help you to understand what your options and help with next steps.
